Jessi Ramsey, Pet-sitter

ISBN 0590420062 - Martin's BSC almost always amuses me - this one's right up there. Jessi, Junior Officer of the BSC, has a week off. Her steady clients are going on vacation and her ballet school will be closed. It's a perfect chance to take a break. At least, it would have been, if the Mancusis didn't suddenly lose their pet-sitter. Kristy's ready to rule that no BSC member will be taking that job when Jessi volunteers. Taking care of a bunch of animals certainly turns out to be a challenge! Meanwhile, Kristy's getting too bossy and the rest of the BSC officers are sick and tired of her bossy ways and their own jobs, so they plan to hold new elections. Will the club end up falling apart, or will they somehow be able to resolve this and stick together? Early in the book, Jessi's own fixation on the fact that's she black seems strange, since it's dropped early and no one else seems to care. Other than that... standard, excellent, BSC! - AnnaLovesBooks

Retraction

Hello. I believe one of the reviews here is mine. I take back what I said, after reading that other people loved the book. Didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. Bye

A Different Book

I bought this book 3 years ago and I loved it! Jessi got a baby sitting job at a new clients house, instead of finding a house of kids, she found a house of PETS! The story starts from there. One day while she was sitting, one of the hamsters got sick, so Jessi tooh him to the hospital, and well you propably figured out that "he " was actually "she". Yes, the hamster was not sick, she was pregnet, and she gave birth to 10 hamsters! The clients were so happy that they gave one hamster to Jessi(named Misty), one to Mallory(named Frodo), and one to Jackie Rodowsky(named I don't know). It is a Great book and I highly recomend it to you.

CUTE, LIGHT AND FROTHY!

It's great to be living in an era when girls are portrayed in a positive light in literature. Jessi is a delightful character who comes into her own in the 8th grade dominated Baby Sitters'Club (BSC). Jessi earns her sergeant's stripes when she takes on a job no sane person would want -- sitting a zoo of animals belonging to her eccentric neighbors. Why the Board of Health hasn't come after these folks for housing all these animals is anyone's guess. I loved the way the girls all stood up to that dictator, Kristy. It was long past time somebody challenged her and I didn't like the way Kristy ran roughshod over everyone. I also didn't like that stupid Baby Sitters' pledge Kristy made up and I thought Mary-Anne looked like a fool for crying over it and saying how beautiful the pledge was. Horsefeathers! There was nothing beautiful about it! Kristy was just throwing her feather weight around again -- she never could gracefully accept any input from anyone. I thought this book was very funny. It will bring a smile to many a face and laughter from many a mouth. It is funny.

Trip Down Memory Lane

I was surfing, and happened to stumble across the reviews for the BSC books. I'm 18 now, but I grew up with these books from ages 5-14 (when my mom threw them out--boo!), and I'm so pleased to see all these little girls from across the world united by the universal themes discussed in the series. I had nearly every single one of them, up until they hit triple-digits. This was one that stuck out in my mind, because I love animals and this book inspired me to start my own (however short-lived) pet-sitting service. I especially enjoyed the part where she discovers one of the "charges" (a fat nasty hamster named Snicklefritz) is about to have babies, and she has to deal with this small crisis. Please continue writing these wonderful books Ms. Martin; I hope to collect them for my own children someday!
