This story details the life of Jeff McLean for several years from when he began to think about looking for a wife through his courtship and wedding. It is a very interesting story, and hard to put down once started. It did deal with some important issues, such as that the potential mate may not be someone who shares the same talents and background, and may, indeed, not be able to participate in all the same things because of health issues and such, and that is something affecting future life that needs to be considered and evaluated. The downside I find is that it is a very idealized setting much more common in yesteryear, and the characters are portrayed as either very good with very minor faults or characters that looked good for a time but were easy to see through (within a couple weeks) and mostly rotten in reality. I wish there was a book that dealt with the issue of two good people deciding to court and then one of them deciding to break it off, not because of a fault in the other, but because they realize they aren't the best match. Anyway, that being said, it is a good book and I play to read it to my kids.
