this is a great book its fast pace. and its a great story about anakin. this is a great clone wars novel. since anakin is not in many books as a jedi this is a good book to get inside anakins head.

Jedi Trial

This is an excellent book. Anakin truly becomes a Jedi in this book! A must read for any Star Wars Fan!

War! War! War!

Though I do not judge this book as critically as the other reviewers, it did have some flaws in it. Both are authors are war veterans, so you can expect some strategic battles, heavy artillery, and bloody fighting to be in the book. As the previous reviewers said, the authors know their strategies and war tatics well. They know how to plan a battle and execute that plan. But, in the process of this great planning, the Jedi (Anakin and Master Halcyon) are shunned from much of the fighting because they are commanders. This book just doesn't bring the rutless fighting we saw in Shatterpoint and many of the Clone War novels. The dialogue was very short and simple in some parts( kind of like the " I have a bad feeling about this " line). The biggest dissapointment however, was Anakin seemed to be off character, shall we say. He was not the young, cocky, headstrong character we fans have come to love. His confidence in his powers is not as strong as they are in Attack Of The Clones or Revenge Of The Sith. I was especially interested in this because it's sole focus was supposed to be on " The Chosen One " Anakin Skywalker. This was the trial set before him so he could be dubbed a Jedi Knight. Also, with most books Anakin is in, he flirts with the Dark Side of the force. The book was still entertaining even through all of its faults. This book may be mistaken for a military book, but don't be fooled, it is still a good Star Wars novel. If you are a fan of Anakin Skywalker(like me) I highly recommed you to grace your eyes on this book. Read! Read! Read!

Look at the bigger picture

OK.Now I've heard every bodies as to why this is a bad book. That reason being the writing is too juvinile.Well Star Wars books were never meant to be the Illiad.Secondly I find it refreshing that Anakin hasn't been written like a bad egg but rather like that friend that Obi wan remembers so fondly in A New Hope.In my opinion this book does for Anakin what Shatterpoint did for Mace Windu and Cestus did for Obi-wan. Also I thought that they did an excellent job with Neeja. The last thing we needed was a corran clone. Also this was their first story in the Star Wars universe let's cut them some slack.

coming of age Skywalker tale

Separatist Admiral Pors Tonith leads an army of combat droids on an assault of planet Praesitlyn. Though ably defended by commander Capt. Zozridor Slayke, the surprise attack works so that the Separatists control a key communications center. The Republic leadership worries who to send as there are not any acceptable Jedi Knights available to lead the counterinsurgency. To regain supremacy of the beleaguered orb, the Republic reluctantly sends Jedi Knight student Anakin Skywalker and the dishonored Jedi Knight Nejaa Halcyon to lead the assault to retake the planet. However, the defeated planetary defenders still alive do not readily ally themselves with the so-called Republic rescuers because Slayke hates Halcyon and wants him dead. In that personal mess, Anakin is being tested as a leader and whether he is ready to soar as a full Jedi Knight; failure means death. This is a super tale that emphasizes the military battles with a close look at the impact on the troops from all sides as well as a coming of age Skywalker tale. The story line avoids the bigness of the Star War military clashes by honing in on troops that lack basic necessities (the rush to Baghdad with only one bottle of water per day in 100 plus degree heat per soldier would be an oasis). Thus readers obtain a fabulous military outer space encounter as a major backdrop to a young Anakin tale. Great work once again from the five star joint chiefs David Sherman and Dan Cragg (see STARFIST: A WORLD OF HURT - also released this month) Harriet Klausner
