The life story of Saint Jeanne Jugan from her birth to her mission that still lives today. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I haven't read this book yet but will purchase it based on what was written in the previous review AND because this person is about to be canonized in October --the 11th to be exact. I would recommend everyone read the book...be careful, you might desire to serve the poor!
Truly Inspiring

I read this book while on a silent retreat and - move over Mother Teresa - Bl. Jeanne Jugan (to be canonized in Oct 2009) became my favorite female saint! I give the book only four stars because, although it is thoroughly researched and documented, it starts rather prosaically and is a bit dry. However, the story of Jeanne's life is truly inspiring and deserves more than five stars. The title really says it all. Here was a truly humble person. At one point in her story she is out begging and a miserly man literally throws Jeanne down the stairs. She picks herself up and calmly THANKS him! While her early ministry included great accomplishments, founding the Little Sisters of the Poor and many homes for the poor, it is the last part of her life that I found most inspiring. Her ministry with the elderly taken away from her by an egotistical and controlling priest, she was confined to the novitiate of her Order, and all her accomplishments were ascribed to others. Rather than complain, or even try to set the record straight, she accepted her fate humbly and put her stamp of humility on the young Sisters who came to know her. It wasn't until years after her death that the true story came out. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to be inspired by a life of faith, perseverence and humility.
