A highly illustrated reference to all aspects of jazz dance by one of the art's most respected teachers. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I got this book at the library, just to see if I could "pick up" some jazz dance as an exercise variation. And there I was, within a few minutes, doing jazz moves. I later bought the book. This book is very well organized and easy to follow. it starts with explanations of parts of the body and how they relate to jazz dance. There is a glossary of jazz terms, a section on warm-up stretches, and an outline of anatomy as it pertains to jazz dance. Then the meat of the book is explanations of the movements themselves. Presented in a brief and direct style, there is a small photo of a dancer doing each movement, beside the explanation of the movement, using terms and abbreviations explained in the front. This is done for all beginning through advanced jazz dance movements, maybe a hundred movements? I would recommend this book to someone wanting to learn some jazz dance on their own, as I did.
