One of the best books to learn Java as a first language

If you want to learn Java, you should look no further than this book. It's excellent, I don't know any other book which combines an in-depth look at the language and a sound pedagogy of programming. Don't bother about typos: the author maintains a great web site where you can download corrections and all the code.
