I bought this book in 1989 and it was my first book on Japanese architecture and it has remained one of my favorites. It is filled with many outstanding b/w and some color photos. The beginning of the book shows the magnificent Ise shrine in Wakayama and offers many excellent examples of the architecture and fine details. Most of the book deals with traditional minka and gassho farm houses, many of which can be visited in the region of shirakawa-go. Though apparently out of print, I highly recommend this book.
