beautifully controlled poems

The language in these poems is clear, precise, and absolutely gorgeous. But the control doesn't come at the price of emotion; the poems are also deeply felt, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking. This is a wonderful collection of poetry by a talented young author.

Don't Miss This!

What Anderson does here is remarkable. In this first book he reflects back to us some of the awkward inadequasies with which we all live in a subtle voice polished with undeniable wit. From snipe hunts to Icarus to the all familiar football coach, Anderson has produced a collection that may be his first but promises to not be his last.

Precise, Accessible Poetry

January Rain marks the introduction of a very fine poet. Daniel's poetry is so precise (the meter is nearly perfect in EVERY poem) that one worries the subject matter may suffer. Amazingly, Anderson's poems are filled with images which strike a chord in everyone. "The Last Resort" took me straight back to a vacation in a place much like the one he is describing. And "Snipe! Snipe! Snipe!" starts the reader with a funny, laughable image of a young child trying to fit in but manages to turn to a scene with a lover without hesitation. The concept of a man who never knows when to say when is portrayed in an unusual, yet extremely successful, manner. For those who are loyal to poetry, this is one collection you cannot miss. For those who regard poetry as inaccessible and lacking in reward to those who struggle with it, give this collection a try. January Rain is fabulous
