An alternative to the model-driven company history

This is a top-notch automotive history. It details the company from its start, but rather than following along model by model, it tells the story of the people. It offers much greater insight into the people behind the cars than any other book on the subject. It's a little short on facts and figures, however, so you're best going somewhere else for that
