Jacques Fath

Before there was Jean Paul Gaultier, there was Jacques Fath. Known as the enfant terrible of the fashion world in the 1940s and 1950s, Fath injected a sense of levity and joie de vivre into the... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Great, great, great!

If you enjoy vintage couture and the designers of past, this book is for you. I love it!! I have found very little information on Fath throughout the years and was thrilled when I saw this one. Fath is such fun to read about and watch him create for his muse--who happens to be his wife. Good black and white photos and I have this one displayed with other fashion books in my collection. A definite must have.

Slender and lovely, the first English-language book on Fath

Jacques Fath deserves a lot more remembrance than he's gotten in fashion history. In his heyday at the height of the "New Look" era at the end of the 1940's, he was right up there with Christian Dior as an exponent of feminine elegance; in my personal opinion, his creations were often sexier and more sensual than Dior's immortal classics. However, like Dior, he died tragically - from leukemia - and far too soon, leaving behind his wife (his muse and favorite model) and his young son. As far as I know, there have been no books at all on this fashion genius previously published in the English language, though there have been a couple of French coffee-table books, which are available from Marketplace sellers though very expensive. The only problem at all with this little book is that it's too little! The introductory essay provides a nice overview of Fath's brief life and career, and the carefully selected photos, all full-page, show the sensuality, elegance and glamour of his couture. I hope one day somebody will prepare a big coffee-table-type book on this subject!

one of the best

A designer that seems to be left out when discussing fashion classics. A designer whose career ended too quickly. This book is a must of fashion obsession. He's up there with the best like: Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Patou, Vionnet, Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Lagerfeld, Gres, Poiret, Valentino, Cardin, etc. etc. I hope they revive his fashion house.
