I read this as a child and have never forgotten it. I have a 5 year old boy now and was recently trying to remember some of my favorite books from childhood. There are the obvious ones that came to mind like, Where the Wild Things Are, but this one is much more obscure. I vividly remembered the illustrations and the underlying message--Don't judge someone by the way they look. Every kid (and parent) living in these self absorbed, overly consumeristic times could benefit from reading this delightful book with a refreshing philanthropic message.
