I found this book while browsing for literature to freshen up on what's going on in the industry. The ideas were innovative and helpful. A refreshing spin for all of us to learn from.
Forward Looking IT Consulting Book
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
As someone who's been an IT consultant for the last 20 years, I've had plenty of time to read really boring industry books (they help me sleep on long flights home.) Most of the time they're more about how much success the authors have had then anything insightful about where the industry is going. The only reason why I ended up picking this book up is because I saw the forward was written by Marc Benioff (which certainly says something about the authors) and this book did not disappoint. It was pretty insightful. Kirven and Berridge are dead on about their thesis and bring a refreshing, forward looking perspective to an industry get sometimes gets too far away from its innovate roots. Would have loved to have seen a few more specific, customer examples, but otherwise enjoyed it.
important read

This book opens discussing the excesses of the dotcom boom. How prescient given the current state of the economy. However, businesses have invested heavily in technology and that is not likely to change. If CIOs are interested in ways to mitigate the risks of deploying large projects, this book will give them some new perspectives. For those already familiar with on-demand companies like salesforce.com and agile consulting, you may find some of the concepts basic, but still well worth the read.
Offers Great Insight into the IT Biz

As we no there is no shortage of books on technology and the IT industry. What was refreshing about this book is that it did not try to evangelize the latest and greatest technology innovations. It provided real examples and explained the "on demand" world in a way that was relevant to actual business applications. For those that have careers in the IT industry, it is worth the time. As with all business books, some of the content is a bit redundant, but overall a great book.
