deserves 3.5 stars. boring at times. overall decent.

I did not take the exam (went for CAPM instead), but I did read the book. It deserves 3.5 stars. boring at times. overall decent, only if you have time and patience to read through the book which is difficult.

IT Project+ 2nd edition -

I found the book to be exactly as it claims -- study guide towards compTIA's Project+ certification. The book covers majority of topics in the actual exam. I passed the exam this week based on reading this book a couple of times & reading thru compTIA's ILT-series workbook.

concise and clear

After reading the reviews of the first edition, I was somewhat skeptical about buying this book. However, since there is no other study guide available for the IT Project + (2003 Objectives), I decided to give it a shot. This book is very well written. It is inline with the CompTIA updated objectives, and has loads of practice questions. After every chapter, you will find 20 multiple choice questions (along with their explanations). The companion CD has addition 120 drills, with explanations. The best feature is that the difficulty level of these questions is inline with the actual test questions (add 5 to 10% variance). The only reason I am giving this book a four star is because of the typos. Although, the typos are not that misleading that you will end up learning a concept incorrectly, I believe the authors should have exercised a better quality control plan during the execution/controlling phase. Whoa. Do I sound like IT Project+ certified or what?I passed the test. The only other material I used was the cram session study guide. It is written for the older version of the exam though. Why did I bother reading that guide? Because, at that point, this book was not available in the stores. If you have a good understanding of PM, and if you solve all the 350 multiple-choice questions that comes with this book (and the CD), the actual test will not be as hard, as most people think it is.

Good book for people starting in IT Project management

I'm very new to Project management. This book was written in a clear structure and easy to understand.

Far more than just an exam study guide.

In over 14 years of working in the IT industry I have been assigned to many projects, I have even been in charge of several of them. Until I read this book I was not aware of everything that goes into good project management. It is no surprise that Sybex has release the first and only book on the subject. The author seems to know his stuff in this 650 page book which is more than just a study guide for the exam, it is a manual that can and should be read by anyone planning or working as a project manager. Covering the 4 major exam domains and a map of those domains is right in the front of the book, you will start off with project management fundamentals which after reading has given me a better understanding of much time and effort it takes to make a project successful. You then move on to the project scope and how important this is to learn presentation skills, analysis and assessment techniques. From there you will learn how to setup, manage, control and run projects no matter the size or scope. Finally there is a section on the closing of the project and all this comes with review questions in every chapter as well as case studies. The cd, as with other Sybex manuals and practice tests, which are adaptable, flash cards and an e-book. Being first in this case is a very good thing.
