Book Overview

Mel, Alexa, Olivia and Kiyoko thought they had won the jackpot when they scored the oh-so-competitive internships at Flirt Magazine. But when the summer ended, they assumed they'd have to say good-bye. Not so fast, girls! Media mogul Josephine Bishop was so impressed by their work that she asks them to stay on for another semester. But will financial woes, time-consuming jobs, school and parental pressure get in the way of these Flirts' dreams?

A FLIRT-alicious good time!

The FLIRT interns - Mel, Kiyoko, Gen, Alexa, Liv, and Charlotte - are on their way out of the offices that they've spent their summer interning in, when they discover that Top Diva Jo Bishop - aka the Editor-in-Chief and mastermind behind FLIRT Magazine - wants them to do one last task for her - stay on for another semester, and help FLIRT get a head start on Fall. While the girls are all thrilled at the prospect of staying in New York for another semester, there's also a sense of resentment from a few of the interns - namely Mel - who feels that it's her duty to head back home to Berkeley, and help her parents take care of her younger sibs. But when she realizes that she already has an interview lined up for admission into one of the best public schools - a creative writing magnate - Mel is determined to prove herself to her family and her friends, and show everyone that she can handle the Big Apple - even on a budget. However, each of the FLIRT girls quickly realize that staying on at FLIRT for another semester isn't all peaches and cream. For one, summer is over, and instead of spending their days working, and their nights partying it up; the girls must figure out a way to balance their schedules - from school, to work; and jobs to parental pressures - the girls must get everything in line, otherwise, they may just fall flat on their faces, as opposed to FLIRT-ing their way to the top. After delving into the FLIRT world in books 1-4, I had no idea that Nicole Clarke would release more additions to the series, showcasing the characters' extended stay at the FLIRT offices. However, as an avid FLIRT fan, I couldn't be happier. As with the previous books, within the pages of ISSUES we follow the girls on a tumultuous journey of getting re-settled into their NYC loft environment, as well as their prospective new schools. We also accompany them as they try to juggle overwhelming schedules, and fit in as much partying and schmoozing with celebs as possible. While the four previous books focused on one girl - Mel, Alexa, Kiyoko, and Liv - ISSUES combines the four girls personalities together, and gives each of them a little fame and glory, tossing in a bit of secondary characters Gen and Charlotte. The content within ISSUES is slightly more mature than previous installments, discussing drinking, hangovers, and some in-depth relationship drama. However, it remains light enough for tween readers, as well as the older teen set. A FLIRT-alicious good time! Erika Sorocco
