The worst book ever. It is too over the top boring. There is nothing to look forward to in this book. It certainly is no Scarlett book.

Not what I expected from this author

Not sure about this book. It doesn't make sense and is very confusing. Nothing like her other books. Sorry I ever bought this book.

Funniest book I've ever read

I was disappointed to see how many reviewers didn't appreciate the off beat humor in this book. The only other author that can make me laugh out loud like this would be Tim Dorsey, and the outrageous characters in his Triggerfish Twist series. Her characters are so wacky and oblivious, I couldn't get enough of them. I've read the book four times, and have been looking for the next book in the series. I will say though, that this book is probably not for the heavy of heart.

My 2 cents worth

This was the funniest book I have ever read. The author must have had a really good time writing it. I think this is my favorite of the cornwell books so far.

Isle of Dogs

I've followed Patricia Cornwell since Postmortem was published in 1990. Throughout the last decade, till she published Isle of Dogs, Patricia Cornwell, along with Robin Cook, has set the example for prospective medical thriller writers. Her prose has been clear and sharp but above all, her work is realistic. When I picked up Isle of Dogs, I was expecting something slightly different, considering that this is not a Kay Scarpetta novel. I was unpleasantly surprised when I started reading this story and stumbled upon the scenes with the talking animals. I have to admit that I'm truly shocked. This coming from a writer of very well written, highly praised, bestselling medical thrillers. Putting the book down for the last time, after reading approximately half the book, I thought to myself, "This is not Patricia Cornwell." I am writing this not just to provide a review for prospective readers of this novel. I am also writing this as a bid for Ms. Patricia Cornwell herself. Please, Ms. Cornwell, go back to what you were truly best at. Please go back to the Carpetta novels. I recall that The Last Precinct went unfinished. It went so in the sense that Kay Scarpetta quit her job as a medical examiner. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know what happens next. Please go back to those suspenseful story lines, to that spectacular way of making medical science intersting and highly relevant to the story. Please go back to Kay Scarpetta. Good luck in your future endeavours.

A wonderful departure for Cornwell

This book is hilarious. Anyone who doesn't enjoy it has losttheir sense of humor. This is nothing like any of PatriciaCornwell's other books, but is just as enthralling, only in adifferent way. Even the characters' names are funny. I didn'tknow Ms. Cornwell had it in her, but I sure am glad she does.I won't go into the plot, as others have. I only want to say,don't expect the usual Scarpetta chiller, just plan to have agood time and read this book.

A Dog?

I have read all of Patricia Cornwell's novels and like her writing for several reasons. First, her strong female lead characters are refreshing. I've always had a particular fascination for the Kay Scarpetta character. Second, Cornwell is a master of the English language and uses her skills to capture the depth of her characters. In this manner, the reader acquires the feeling that "I'm not reading a novel." There is an uncanny vividness in the way Cornwell crafts her stories. Third, Cornwell typically presents a technical dimension to her stories that demonstrate that she completed substantial research prior to writing the novel. ISLE OF DOGS is different from her other novels. The main character is not female. For me, that was sad. Many of the characters lack depth seen in her past work. The central character in ISLE OF DOGS has no depth. However, the governor's daughter adds an interesting flavor to the plot. On the brighter side, Cornwell retains her vividness and mastery of the written word. I didn't particularly like the story line, but I appreciate Cornwell's mastery of the English language. In addition, Cornwell shows off her impressive knowledge of helicopters. She did her research.So what does this mean? If you read ISLE OF DOGS because you like novels of about strong women figures, you will not be satisfied with this book. Here you will find a well-written humorous story where the ending is predictable but the process of getting to the end of this tale is not predictable.
