Is God on America's Side?: The Surprising Answer and How It Affects Our Future

With typical wisdom and lucidity, Erwin W. Lutzer addresses a question that often arises after disappointing elections or events in our nation: "Is God really on America's side?"

To answer, the reader is carefully led through seven vital principles of a biblical understanding of judgment.

God can both bless and curse a nation. God judges nations based on the amount of light and opportunity they are given. God sometimes uses exceedingly...

Excellent wake-up for some, comfort for others

I so much appreciate everything Pastor Luzter writes and preaches. He is clear, factual, Scriptural, informative and compassionate. I'm getting copies of this book for believing friends. What a comfort for those of us who grieve at our nation's headlong rush downward is this reminder to keep looking up for Christ's return soon and trusting Him through the troubles He allows. Also, a good reminder to make every effort possible to tell more people the good news of Jesus before it is too late. No matter how bad the nightly news and how deplorable the actions of our "leaders," God is in perfect control and He WILL bring all things to glorify Him. Hallelujah!

God's blessing and cursing of nations

To the committed secular reader, Dr. Lutzer's work will make no sense. His premise is that God is sovereign and in ultimate authority over human history, prospering and bringing down nations in accord with His restorative purposes for His creation. Each of the first seven chapters illustrates a principle of God's activity in dealing with peoples and nations. Using Biblical patterns, he developes a foundation from which to answer the question posed in the title, "Is God on America's Side?" 1. God can both bless and curse a nation 2. God judges nations based upon the amount of light and opportunity they are given 3. God sometimes uses exceedingly evil nations to judge those that are less evil 4. When God judges a nation, the righteous suffer with the wicked 5. God's judgments take various forms 6. In judgment, God's target is often His people, not just the pagans among them 7. God sometimes reverses intended judgments. As we are living in a time of prophetic acceleration and selective judgments coming at us with breathtaking rapidity, does America now stand under God's remedial judgment or are we destined for the scrapheap of history and destruction? Is a praying 'civil religion' sufficient for preserving our nation or does our 'civil religion' forsake the radical gospel of grace, abandoning any conviction of sin? Now that I think of it, even the progressive-secular reader may gain a better understanding of the Biblical worldview to which so many of his fellow countrymen cling. To consider that the judgments of an almighty God are real and immediate may awaken in our nation to the role of Providence in human affairs. Perhaps this will be in time that we might avert increasing remedial judgments upon our nation as well as the wrath to come.

Erwin Lutzer......a most informed voice in theological cirlcles

This is a question that has been on many minds lately....Is God on Americas side? It's starting to look like God is not on America's side and that is making us all uneasy. Well, why should God be on America's side? We, as a nation have very difinately turned our backs on Him. If taking prayer out of schools, allowing and sanctioning the killing of millions of unborn babies and turning into a culture of sex saturated zombies isn't enough..... well, you get the idea! I still hope and pray that God Is on America's side. Erwin Lutzer has a most thought provoking answer........

Time to wake up

We have this remarkable thought that we as a country can tell God to butt out of every aspect of our lives, but then call for and expect His help when we need Him. During crises, it's "May God bless America" or "God help us". Lutzer correctly points out that God is not beholden to anyone but His children, and even then expects them to choose to obey His practical principles. A quick, poignant read, especially for our current times.

Interesting Book

Erwin Lutzer writes on a variety of cutting edge topics, taking a look at hot-button issues and this book is no different. In Is God On America's Side takes a hard look at the state of our nation in light of today's politics. Once again Lutzer will make you think about your own stand on the issues and light a fire under you to do your part in your sphere of influence. It was a very interesting book.
