Decent introduction to the Global Positioning System... at too high a price
Published by Joseph T. Page II , 2 years ago
If you understand only the acronym "GPS" or that your phone tells you where you are at based on "demonic signals coming from space," than this book will provide you with all that you need to know... to ace a Jeopardy quiz. Seriously, the book does a great service of explaining the basics of GPS - signal structure, satellites, ranging - to a layperson or interested undergraduate engineering student. The downside of the book is the price. The information within is outdated and can easily be found on the web... and the final nail in the coffin is... Artech House (same publisher) has a "better" GPS book (Kaplan and Hegarty's "Understanding GPS: Principles and Applications") that covers the same material in less pages and THEN jumps to the engineering side of things quickly. Purchase only if you are a series collector or historian (like me) to see what has changed in the GPS' story. Otherwise this book is not worth the (extremely high) purchase price.
