Pretty good balance of breadth and depth

This book has everything from basics to more complicated maths. It also comes with algorithms which then can help you implement the theory you just learned.

Introduction to discrete event systems

This book is a great textbook for students who are interested in the control engineering field. Due to the difficulty, it is more focused for graduate students.
