Education can be beautiful

A review of "Introduction to Astrology" by Dawne Kovan There are many books in print from which you can learn the specifics of astrology. There are many books describing the characteristics of individuals born under each sign. There are books which will help one find out how compatible one might be with those of other signs. There are books of horoscopes for each sign, for any given year. Some are quite good, and some are just plain junk. More difficult to find is a book that explains in an easy-to-understand fashion, the underpinnings of astrology. Introduction To Astrology is an older book, published by Todtri in 1999. Somewhat of a coffee-table sort of book, it is filled with marvelous illustrations, from leaves from books of antiquity, to photographs of stained glass windows from European Cathedrals and more. But more than the excellent photography and illustrations, Introduction to Astrology offers an historical overview of astrology, and an understanding of the basics of this science of antiquity which allows the layman to understand where this science came from and a glimpse into how it works. With an introduction explaining what astrology is, a short history, and a description of the objects that are used in astrology, the book then describes the characteristics influenced by each of the planets. It then examines each of the signs and describes how these relate to the planets. It concludes with chapters on relationships and compatibility. This is not a text which will equip a person to be their own astrologer. It does not go into a deep study of the science of astrology. You won't find ephemerids, astrological aspects, logarithms or any of the more scientific or mathematical aspects of astrology. What it does do well though is to offer the layman a basic understanding of what astrology is, where it came from and how it works.

No coffee table should be without it!

Well, what can I say? This is a very pretty book, with many gorgeous illustrations. It is a well-written book, and very easy to read. The descriptions of the signs are accurate, and while the book is easy to thumb through, you will find that you have just sat down and read half of it. Like I just have.I recommend it whole-heartedly, and look forward to reading more from the same author.
