straightforward, but excellently structured!

when you sit down to work through and learn all the things there is to know about 3ds Max, this Book is the best book that you could have. the author walks you through with baby steps and makes sure that you know every little thing that is going on. this has not only allowed me to create great looking CG (Computer Generated) material, but it has allowed me to fully understand what is going on with the program when i perform the actions that i perform. The author does a great job of stepping you through all the different sub-object editing tools and after almost every step of the way through a tutorial, the author makes sure that you still understand everything (kind of like a recap). With practically 3 full chapters of just getting to know the program BEFORE even modeling anything, this book, like no other, can set you up for a long term streamline of success in the CG world.

An invaluable (and entertaining) Book !

When I wanted to delve into the world of 3ds Max, I checked the different reviews of books on offer and decided on this one . What a great choice ! This book is perfect for the complete novice ! It is VERY easy to understand, and quite entertaining along the way ! The step by step explanations and photos make it easy to navigate the daunting 3ds Max program . It takes you through making a basic moving mobile, all the way up to a cool looking Tank ! The dvd that comes with it includes all the pre made models, so you can see how things work in a true 3d world, and has a demo version of 3ds Max which is very handy in helping you decide if this is right for you, before you shell out big bucks for the full copy ! All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in 3d modelling. Oh, and when your mobile begins to turn in 3d, the feeling of accomplishment is worth the price of the book alone !!!!

Very good for a start

Very good and very comprehensive book for beginners. After that I think I could push myself forward for something more advanced.

Great Book!

Its written in easy to follow directions, instructions and example pictures. I really enjoyed the student work section in the middle of the book. This book has greatly expanded my 3D modeling 'tool belt' and boosted my confidence for tackling difficult projects.
