Self-publishing before the Internet

Written in 1977 by a USGS tech director and a geologist/reporter, this guide "is packed with practical information to help authors of all kinds over the hurdles of getting their articles and book-length manuscripts 'into print' [making] the entire publishing process understandable." Many of the examples given are science-oriented. Graphing, charting, scaling, proofreading, manuscript and proofing tips, studio lighting, preparing bibliographies and many, many other details are covered. While in today's (2010) world, much of the technical printing and reproduction information is outdated, anyone preparing a manuscript could benefit from the information herein. The 4.5-page index is a good one.
