Excellent Study on the Doctrine of Scripture

Mal Couch is one of my favorite theologians. He has an ability to take deep theological themes and make them practical to the reader. He does not fail to produce this in his work GOD HAS SPOKEN. In this book Couch seeks to instruct the reader about the doctrine of Scripture. He begins by showing the reader that the Bible is unique among all literature and then proceeds to build his case for divine inspiration of the Bible and inerrancy (being without errors). Couch does this by building a case for a God who would desire to communicate with His creationi (Psalm 19:1-6; Hebrews 1:1-3). He shows that if God is truly our creator then He would desire to reveal Himself. From God's self revelation comes the doctrine of Scripture. God has spoken to humanity and He has chosen to do so through the Bible. Couch defines key terms and helps the reader understand just how God inspired His Word and how the Bible came to be such as issues as the Old and New Testament canons. Couch ends the book with a discussion about the Bible and apologetics and how the Church needs to take the Word to a dying world and defend the gospel with the Bible (1 Peter 3:15-16). Overall this is a good study on Scripture. While the reader might find themself getting bogged down by terms or by boredom, the doctrine of Scripture is very important especially in our age of "tolerance" and attacks against Christianity.
