This book has GREAT information (and affirmation) for music teachers!

I recently reviewed "Inside the Music Classroom" for a graduate course in Classroom Management, and was so very pleased to find much more. In addition to the many lists, letters, templates and timelines (which I'll find VERY useful!), the author also shares a wider view. Who will come into your classroom and how will you effectively lead them? How do you creatively challenge students ranging from Pre-K through adolescence and avoid burning out? The inclusion of Bloom's Taxonomy (and a wonderful chart with questions and activities by grade level), the triune brain and Gardner's multiple intelligences were the best I've found in ANY music education publication, and rivals what was included in my course textbook - concise and specific. Additionally, there was an excellent model of curriculum planning by grade level for the full year. I liked that the author validated all the major music pedagogues (Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze and Gordon) by blending the best of each method. It frees us to choose the best fit for our individual gifts. I've already read this book twice and will pick it up again and again!

A "Must Read" for every elementary music teacher!

YES!!!! I picked up this book and it was perfect! Patty Bourne speaks from her passionate, music education heart directly to yours. This book is about teaching kids effectively in the best way that is true to who the music teacher is, utilizing what works best for them--Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, Gordon, or a combination of them all! A summary of quality music teaching from theory, history, methods to practical things like, how to plan a year, and how to plan a lesson. Planning lists to prepare for a concert or performance. Everything laid out in a concise straightforward matter. Most of all, it's about how to teach the art from your heart. I wish I had read it BEFORE I began teaching! What a tremendous help all in one book. If there was one book I would say EVERY elementary music teacher should read, especially a new teacher, this is it. Get it. Read it. You won't be able to put it down from cover to cover. Sharon Burch Music Teacher/Clinician/Author, Freddie the Frog® Books

Inside the Music Classroom: Teaching the Art with Heart

I was delighted by the wealth of information offered by the author in such a practicial and easy to comprehend manner. I really appreciated that she was able to address so many of the concerns of new teachers. Ms. Bourne is a teacher who has the passion I want to have about teaching. This book is so well organized and helpful and I can't recommend it enough. I know I will be referencing it often and recommending it to all the music teachers I encounter. It is written from someone who truly loves to teach.
