Book Overview

At last, a book that actually teaches you how to inline skate. Whether you're a rank beginner or a skating pro, William Nealy's Inline! will educate and entertain you like no other how-to-manual you've ever read. Nealy uses hard earned crash-and-burn skating experience, 4th dimensional drawings, and his twisted sense of humor to give you the most comprehensive, easy to understand, and detailed book on skating ever written. Inline! will teach you everything...

A Graphic Novel and Inline Primer

Sorry earlier reviewers, but I totally and unequivocally disagree that the handwriting makes this book hard to read. In my opinion, the handwriting makes it more fun and more flexible to read when the author wants to stress something textually. The whole book reads like a graphic novel and Nealy does a decent job drawing and explaining the basics of edges and glides, which I think are often illustrated poorly in other books. He also thoroughly explains and illustrates more advanced stops, turning, spins, backwards skating, and cooler, potentially-aggressive moves. There's also a cute, informative skate maintenance section at the back. Honestly, people, most skate books only cover the basics or do some overview of the skating world in general. I think this one's a winner - it goes over a great selection of topics. Based on the opening humor in the cartoons on pages roman numeral five and eleven, it is apparent that the book is not meant for innocent young minds to ponder. But give the author a break - plenty of books go over the basics in an easy-for-kids format. This one is for teens/adults who want to really know a lot of information about technique and don't just want to roll.

Wish I had this book earlier...

If I had this book during the first few days I was learning on my own, I sincerely believed I would not have fallen as often as I did the first month. On average, I was falling on my butt once every 2 days the first month. This book is great. Every beginner like me should have this book, especially if you are trying to learn on your own.

Excellent and down to earth

This is exactly the book you need if you're considering inline skates or want to improve your basic skills. Reading this book before you put on your skates can save you a lot of time and, possibly, pain. It's written as though a friend were talking to you and drawing pictures at the same time. The illustrations are very useful.

Fantastic, Funny, and Fully-detailed look at Skating

Best book on the subject that I have seen. Very funny, often irreverent, while at the same time giving full information and great hand-drawn pictures on how to accomplish all the moves of inline skating from beginner to intermediate and beyond. Very good sections on turning, braking, crashing, etc. and the author seems to know more synonymns for the expression "excrement" (said before every crash) than most of us have heard. I am an older skater and thought this book was just what the Doctor ordered for all who are attracted by the fun and fitness of skating. I think most out there who want to improve or are interested in blading will love this book. It will get you motivated and back on your wheels again!

If you can't skate yet - buy this book

This book looks like a cartoon, but is actually a detailled instruction manual. No amount of words could deliver the same explanation of what skating feels like and how it works. I bought this book immediately after I started skating, and it proved invaluable for directing my early efforts. It covers all the ground from beginner to intermediate, is easy to read, and very funny. Even my 5 year old enjoys the pictoral humour. Worth every penny (or cent).
