When an "accidental" oil slick leaves K.T. with a compromised car that can't be fixed in time to race, he loses his cool and wonders if he'll ever be able to get back on track. Meanwhile, Tak battles against the Lancer Evo team. Young adult.
The focus broadens a little from Takumi Fujiwara in this book. The entire honor of the Gunma region is under attack from the Emporers, a team of drivers who exclusively drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions (LanEvo's). The Emporers are trying to take down every team in Gunma. They're brash and arrogant, but similar to the Takahashis they've got skills and rides to back up their talk. Also, Takumi's 86 is starting to show wear. Bunta's going to use that as yet another lesson for Takumi.I have to tell you, I've been waiting for this book for months. If you've made it this far in the series, then you know the art is fantastic. For a B & W manga, the race scenes are incredible. The tech talk on the cars is also pretty accurate. If you've seen the anime as well, then these books are yet another visit to Akina (and the rest of Gunma). That said, my only possible complaint is that in the translation to English, sometimes I feel they lose the spirit of the books. It felt to me that honor wasn't a concept that adapted well to American society. Ideally, I'd have given it a 4.5 star rating, but wasn't able to. If you're like me, you'll tear through this in a few minutes and have to wait for the next... can't wait... :-)If you're even the least bit interested in the new 'import scene' you've got to check this series out.
