A love story in a love story

Brockmann went back to her Harlequin roots with this novel. I found it to be truly delightful and a great summer read. A.J. Gallagher has been pestered by the ghost of his great-grandfather Jaime Gallagher (who only A.J. Can see) to go to Arizona and set the record straight to Professor Alison Carter who is the historical consultant on a new film about Quinn a sheriff in the old west. Silas Quinn is lauded as a true american hero and Jaime is defamed as a murderer and bank robber who kidnapped and then killed Quinn's wife Melody, when Quinn caught up with them. Quinn supposedly killed Jaime 'Kid' Gallagher then buried both of them in the desert around Arizona. Every child in the USA knows the story but... is it true? All the Gallagher's know the truth but Jaime wants the world to know the truth and A.J. is his messenger. While A.J. is trying to convince Alison, she innocently sees something that she promptly forgets and her life is in endangered. A.J. has to protect her, convince her that Jaime did not kill Melody, and that he lived until 1977 and BTY is with him in spirit form. Finally, he is a recovering alcholic who suffered from PTSD! A very tall order. Alison has her own issues having been raised by an alcoholic mother. Brockmann uses her usual deft ability to tell more than one story at a time, one in the present (A.J. and Alison) and one in the past (Jamie and Melody). I loved this story. Yes, it was slow in some places but the love story between Melody and Jaime was exceptional. This was not her usual high intensity, espionage and political thriller. I think it was a very welcome change. Yes, there is a ghost but who's to say ghosts don't exist. I especially liked the timeline, I'm sure that there were men from the 1800's who lived well into the 1900's and the 20th century. I think Brockmann is at the top of her form and I'm thankful she mixed it up a bit.

great read!

I was very unsure if I would like this book as i started it. But once i understood what was going on i really enjoyed it. I have to say that Jamie turned out to be my favorite. Only thing i was disapointed in was the lack of streangth in AJ. I think he would have came across with more personality. i guess i viewed him as a little bird that was fearful of flying, but i think thatbis where Jamie came in. over all fun and good reading

Fantastic!!!

I read about 4 books a week (yes, I have a life!, I'm an IT analyst) and I've read all of brockmann's books. This book, I read in one day! I LOVED it! The story was mysterious with turns that I didn't expect, it had love, family, laughs, shoot-outs with bad guys, ghosts!, .. everything. I hope this one gets made into a movie, it would WIN AND OSCAR! Suzanne, this one needs to be a series ... keep writing about the Gallaghers! And let Jamie return ...

Infamous Lives Up to Its Name

Like many others, I've been a Brockmann fan for years. I've read nearly everything she's written. So when Infamous hit the shelves (or my Kindle as the case may be) I eagerly started to read. Before you pick up the book understand there is an element of this story that may or may not be a ghost. I don't want to spoil the effect because it goes to the heart of the main character, AJ. He's a flawed character and lovably so. He fights with demons from his past, the desire to drink and the growing fear that perhaps he has completely lost his mind. His need to restore balance to life drives him. If you're looking for a book that's easy to slip into one particular genre--such as contemporary romance--you're not going to find that here. And why should you? As humans we are complex beings. Often we don't fit neatly into one particular box with a header that reads, "Smart" or "Dumb" or "Happy" or "Sad." Brockmann who understands this, carries it over into her writing. Her characters in this book are dynamic and stick with you. I know many people are tired of hearing about war, but really it's been around as long as man. Heck, even wild animals fight for dominance. But unlike animals, human carry with them the ability to regret decisions. So why deny it? As a member of a multi-generational NAVY family, I have seen how war can affect soldiers. Brockmann isn't saying war is bad. What she does point out is that unlike the nightly news, we cannot turn it off if we don't like the program. If you want to read a story that will draw you in, hold you and leave you wanting more, read INFAMOUS.

Great Read!!!!!

Another great book by Suzanne Brockmann!!!! Yes, she can be preachy at times and I guess because I agree with her it doesn't bother me, sometimes I might not share her views but for me, that can be overlooked. I generally don't care for paranormal type books but since it was one of my favorite authors, I listened to it and really like it!!
