In the course of serving for 26 years in the Indian Army, covering the length and breadth of the nation starting the 19th year of my life (I had left Engineering to join NDA), I hadn't realized that my idea of India could be so very different from the real India. Though not oblivious to the socio-political conditions in the country, yet, I was far removed from reality and in retrospect I lived in a different India, in cantonments or on mountain tops or in jungles and therefore, had a perception of a different India. When finally I took retirement and settled down in a civilian area, I realized that my beliefs, my ideas of India that I stood guard for and idealized as a boy and as a soldier are far from reality. The romanticism of the yester years was swept away. This illusion did not lift off in one stroke but it did so gradually with a thousand incidents behind me. This book is an account of experiences, feelings of a person who had no political affiliations (till 2013) and since formative years lived in a secured and an isolated environment with very little interaction with civil populace.
