This concise guide features key principles of critical reading as well as typical types of SAT reading passages, questions, and examples to help maximize scores. This description may be from another edition of this product.
If you don't want to overwhelm your SAT candidate with GIANT books filled with scary tests, use this book as a stepping stone. It's small enough to fit into a back pocket, has an encouraging tone and will help with motivation. It is not enough for the SAT's by itself, but it is a good baby step to build confidence to move into the bigger books. Most students can handle 3 minutes and once they are successful--are willing to move into more substantial study time. Overall, good warmup book to prepare students to learn.
BEST BOOK AVAILABLE!

Although there are many reasons you could score poorly on the SAT, this book is not one of them. I own a number of these prep guides and this book is by far the best for preparing to do well on the Critical Reading portion of the exam. It's clear, it's useful, and it teaches you the strategies you need. And it's fun to read. If you only buy one book for the SAT Critical Reading portion of the exam, this should be the one.

I am very good at math, but the reading and writing part on the SAT scared me to death. I bought this book, and it was a life saver! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great critical reading prep-book. The book is very funny too, I never got bored.
Better than Kaplan...

I paid more than $800 to attend a Kaplan course to prepare for the SAT and PSAT and I came out of it feeling like I had wasted my money. For any sane student who has more to do than flip through thousands of pages of nonsense this is the book for you. At first I felt that preparing for the SAT would be more difficult, but if you follow what the authors tell you, you will see almost immediate progress. For a money conscious person like me, I especially enjoy the multiple applications of this book, which means that it won't be sitting on the shelf after I get into college. I will definately use this book to help me in my writing in the future. A reasonable study program that won't bore you to death, What more can anyone ask?
Definitely Worth Your While

The SAT Essay and SAT Critical Reading books made me feel like it was actually possible to be successful in my test taking. Whereas the other study guides and test prep books I used did more intimidating than teaching, these books lay out what you need to know in a straight forward, easy-to-understand format. Forget all the fluff and lengthy explanations that are more trouble than they're worth. If you have four hours to spend studying for standardized tests every night for the next 3months, good for you. If you are a busy high school student who wants to do well on the SAT or ACT, and have a life as well, these books will do the trick. Oh yeah, they're really funny too.
