In the Shade of the Crimson Tree

The ancient Mulkan civilization is on the verge of being completely annihilated by forced proselytizing and genocide. Colonized for centuries by the Daitya invaders, currently led by the zealot Ruler Dingir and the power behind the throne, Gangwo, the once proud Mulkan spirit lies trampled. A submissive mentality prevails among the remaining Mulkan warriors and the populace.

However, from this shameful state rises a spark as a young boy, Kolakwa. Raised by a determined single mother and guided by an enigmatic teacher, Kolakwa and his diverse friends dare to take on the might of the evil empire.

Employing gradual attrition warfare using their wits and geopolitical maneuvering, they carve out the realm of Atmaraj - the land of self-rule. Simultaneously, we witness the child-to-adult metamorphosis exploring age-old questions of good vs. evil, duty, gender roles, and personal relationship with the Divine.

As Gangwo advances with a massive army to snuff out the nascent Atmaraj, Kolakwa confronts the harrowing possibility that every hard-won gain made with immense sacrifice will be lost, and the Mulkan civilization will cease to exist.

Set in a fictional realm drawing inspiration from the Indian Maratha Confederacy's struggle for freedom against the invader Adilshahi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire, the story invites the readers to share in both the triumphs and the heart-wrenching losses of our heroes. It unfolds across mountain forts to perilous cliffs and seafaring ships. Throughout these pages, ancient wisdom springs to life, inspiring readers to confront their daily battles with courage and resolve.

In contrast to many recent narratives where the protagonists possess exclusive powers, the heroes of this story are ordinary people. They respond to adversity by evolving and bettering themselves. Their story will resonate with the readers and inspire them to do the same.
