Love is Stronger Than Pride

Thank goodness love is stronger than pride, because pride will leave you nothing but lonely. Such is the case with Shari and Derrick, who spent years apart and "faking the funk" with other people, knowing how truly miserable they each were. When they were together in college, it was electric and you could almost see the sparks fly. However, when Derrick witnesses an "accidental" kiss between Shari and his friend Carlton, in his mind, it is unforgivable and he rushes off to London to escape the hurt and pain of betrayal. Derrick is forced to return years later because of his father's illness. However, his ex-girlfriend Mia is bound and determined to make sure Derrick and Shari do not get back together. The plots she and her current "boyfriend" concoct are pretty dirty and the lengths the two will go to just to get what's not theirs is oftentimes hilarious. Even as Shari considers taking Derrick back after a tumultuous re-connection, she still can't trust his intentions. Does he love her or is it that she has something of his that means more to him than even her love? Derrick's mother, who never thought Shari was good enough for her baby in the first place, further complicates matters. Sammie does a superb job in conveying the raw emotions of betrayal. Shari knows in her heart she never meant to hurt Derrick, but Derrick's pride doesn't allow him to see past his own hurt. I like reading about normal folks experiencing everyday problems. Shari struggled while going to school to become a doctor and now has a new, professional man, a lovely home and all the wonderful trappings of a middle class life. What more could a woman want? When Derrick resurfaces, everything she thought was clear in her life now seems cloudy. Sammie's characters are real and never perfect, which makes In the Name of Love even more compelling. Will Derrick and Shari get past their pain or will they let pride take the place of their love? A great read, Sammie!

Dr. Shari Thomas can do it all. She runs a successful medical practice, raises a young son, and has captured the eye of a Cardiologist named Kevin Mason. Everything seems to be going well........until the return of her ex-college sweetheart, Derrick Rawlings. Since Derrick's return, the relationship between Shari and Kevin begin to go through twist and turns. Kevin tries to do everything in his power to keep Shari interested in him. When it seems to be useless, Kevin gets help that can be deadly to Shari. This is a love story that I really liked. There are not too many stories that have to deal with single mothers. Especially being a single educated black mother with a great career. Ms. Sammie Ward story shows that True Love can be so strong that nothing can break through it. No matter how many years it's been apart. True Love will always win.

This book was great,i couldn't put it down once i started reading it. Write more like this one Home girl!!!!!

Great Read, Sammie!

In the Name of Love is a sensitive story about lovers Derrick and Shari who are separated by a lack of trust on his part then reunited six years later when he discovers they have a son. All of Ms. Ward's characters were vivid and real to me, people I could identify with. Will there be a story for Camilla and Lance? I hope so. For several years I have been privileged to read some of Ms. Ward's other work and have watched her grow well into her art. I am so pleased to see In the Name of Love in print. This story not only entertained but kept me riveted right to the end. Thanks for a great read, Sammie!
