Silas doesn't anticipate Reid to be outside his house until he sees Reid, his best friend and the source of his first romantic fling, accidentally drown before his eyes. Under Reid's skin right now is a Spider Demon that is exclusively interested in Silas and poses a threat. Reid, who is tempted, chooses another male human as his mate instead of himself, leaving Silas to Quinton, another Spider Demon and Reid's older brother, who becomes possessive of him.
