In Her Defense by Margaret Watson released on Jul 12, 2005 is available now for purchase. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Please where would someone come up with a name like Doak? Rich society? Pierce McDougal the third is not happy with A. J. Ferguson. [grin] And we know why, yes? First: she protects the victims, not allowing the detective to harrasse them. And Mac is not into relationships. [Yeah! right] Second: she is too determined not to accept help from anyone. Not even when she needs it. Third: she keeps herself shut off from everyone. What is her problem? Mac has problems of his own and refuses to acknowledge them. He hasn't even told them to his partner, Jake Donovan, and Mac is 33 years old. At this age he still won't talk? Mac needs information that he is sure Mindy Talbott or her son, Jamie has that could lead to their capturing Doak Talbott, a big time abuser. He and Jake are trying to connect Doak to the suspected murder of a Country Club waitress. Ah, but daddy, Pierce McDougal is a member of the Country Club and in partnership with Talbott. Mac displays a certain emphathy and gentleness for Jamie and his mother. Doak Talbott weaves in and out of the story with enough force to keep the mystery alive and dangerous. My problem with the story is these characters who acknowledge that they shouldn't but do anyway. Yeah, hop into bed. Boy! what inconsistancy! But that is hormones, I guess. Excellent story - Recommended --M - keeps you reading!
Heart and Soul

Yep. In Her Defense has heart and soul, a great read! A bit of suspense and a whole bushel basket of emotion. I loved A.J. and Mac. They're great characters--and very sexy, to boot. Excellent secondary characters, too. I want to see some of them again! Crossing my fingers for a followup on Jake, for instance. A terrific read, no holds barred. For me, it was a can't-put-it-down read. One caveat--I only write reviews about books I've really, really liked, and this is sure one.
For Your Protection

I enjoyed this book. It moves along quickly. A.J. Ferguson has had so much in her world to deal with she thinks she can do many things on her own. Mac McDougal is another policeman who wants to solve this case. He doesn't want to work with A.J. but she is the only one who can tell him where Mindy Talbott and her son are being protected from her husband who beat them very badly. Talbott is a prime suspect in the disappearance of another woman. A. j. is to learn she can't do everything by herself. It was late at night when A.J. left headquarters heading for her car. Suddenly without warning a arm slipped around her neck and yanked her back into the wall of a male body. It was Talbott. Where are they?, he wanted to know. Something glittered in the parking lot light. Something stabbed into her side. She reached for her car keys punching every key until the sound of the cars horn ripped through the air. A car door slamed. Talbott pushed he forward saying "I'll be back". Mac found her on the ground. Call an ambulance! he ordered. Suddenly he realized how important A.J. is to him even if they are constantly fighting about something. This is a fast moving mystery. You will enjoy it. You are glad you are not there and if you were, you need protection form Talbott. How could anyone be that mean? A.J. and Mac are able to protect Talbott's wife and child from him. Thank goodness!
