Poetry these days is rarely, if ever, funny. Robert Siegel, though, had the courage to write a book of poems about, of all things, pigs. Not only is this funny poetry, it's just plain funny reading. I was fortunate enough to be in a creative writing class where selections from Siegel's book were read. It had us all laughing hysterically. I was then even more fortunate to attend a stodgy coffee hour at which Siegel himself read poems that even the most serious reader couldn't stop and subject to close scrutiny without laughing. This is a book for anyone who has been turned off by overly pretentious poetry, but also for those of us who just have a sense of humor.
