A Very Romantic Book

I thought the book made for romantic ideas for a rose garden. I love it!

wonderful rose book

I have a very large "rose" library and am also an artist and gardener who loves the Impressionists and this book satsfies on all levels. I love the background information on Monet and Renoir that the author investigated and naming names of roses that they grew in their gardens. Having paintings by artists shown next to garden shots as well as photos of the roses in question really provide a complete education. If I have one complaint it is that it cost me more money because it inspired me to go find these very roses and add more to my already overbooked (and small) garden. Out of the 20 or so rose books I have this one is perhaps the most satisfying. I cannot choose a favorite book (who could choose just one rose?) but "Impressionist Roses" is at the top.

Lovely book

Had I not seen Peter Beales' masterpiece "A Passion for Roses" and indeed purchased this book because of a hunger for any book with "Rose" in the title because of it, I'd have rated "Impressionist Roses" five stars, but I'm afraid "PFR" has spoiled me for all other rose books. That said, "Impressionist Roses" is beautiful, and would make a wonderful gift for a garden or art lover. Mr. Fell has successfully captured the spirit of the Impressionists in his descriptions, and has managed to gained access to some of the private gardens still extant. This is fascinating if a bit melancholy reading, and the pictures are lovely. The subtitle (Bringing the Romance of the Impressionist Style to Your Garden) may be somewhat of an overstatement. Mr. Fell includes garden diagrams, though there's not much gardening advice, and I always wonder if the author knows whereof he speaks whenever I read "Your" in a title, but as an homage to the gardens of the Impressionists, this is a gorgeous book.
