Book Overview

For public library clerk Diane Anderson, reading romance novels is far easier than attracting a flesh-and-blood man of her own. It seems she's too voluptuous in the wrong places to attract the kind of black man her mama requires as a son-in-law - and just exotic enough to attract the kind of white man her mama forbids. But there's something special about the lost-looking guy who comes into the library one afternoon. When novelist Jack reveals to Diane...

A very enjoyable boook

I wanted a good read that had a happy ending. The book lays quite a bit of groundwork before the romance begins but it was worth it. It is nice to root for a couple of normal good people as they put their relationship together successfully. Jacks way of talking to himself was well done. The interracial element was handled lightly allowing the matters of the heart to have importance. I read the book twice.

Librarian in Love

This was an interesting, entertaining, and refreshing read for me. I'm actually a librarian (white guy) married to a black woman. I was cracking up at Diane's mother, because she reminds me of my wife's mom, who asked her daughter what species I was when she found out that her daughter was dating someone. This was a great book that had me rolling a few times. Diane was right, there's not much worse than a really ashy white guy.

Another Great Addition..

This is the story of Jack and Diane. Yeah, I started singing the song in my head too. Jack Browning is a struggling author who has just lost his family in an accident. Diane Andersen is a Librarian who reviews books in her spare time. Jack tries to move forward with his life by writing another book, but he lacks inspiration. When He goes to the library to check-out so African books, he meets Diane, and that's when their story starts. At first, the book was long in getting to the main characters actually meeting, but the back story helped draw me in. I like the alternating between the two main characters. That way I got a chance to see both characters thoughts. It was a beautiful story and I stayed up really late to finish it. JJ Murray has added another book to my collection that I will read over and over again.

I liked it

I like the interracial aspect, the librarian and the fact the the Author character had NATIVE STRANGER in his personal library. I am buying it for my personal library, and recommending it to patrons at work (I too am a librarian)

Different Strokes .... Different Book

Book Description: Library clerk Diane Anderson finds it easier to live vicariously through romance novels than to land a flesh-and-blood man of her own. She's too voluptuous to attract the kind of black man her mama wants as a son-in-law, and just exotic enough to attract the kind of white man Mama forbids. But when novelist Jack Browning walks into the library one afternoon, looking lost, she's intrigued. And soon, against all odds, Diane is knocking down the wall Jack has built around his heart, becoming the inspiration for his art...and maybe even for his life. *****I watched and waited for the release of this book. I liked the cover but the biggest appeal was Diane's profession - she works in a library. I often find the portrayal of librarians and/or library staff --- interesting. However, I kept the book on my shelf for a week before reading it after reading a couple of reviews. My curiosity about the librarian or how the author portrayed library employees got the better of me and I am glad that I gave in and gave this book a chance. I opened to the first page expecting to struggle and suffer through it; happily I was wrong. I understand and agree that this book will not appeal to everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I found the writing and story different, funny, fast reading, and just plain fun. For me, this time it paid to take a chance. Sometimes "different" is good.
