Fanciful Flights of Fun

I am never sure whether to praise the humor, the unique typography, the illustrations, or the educational aspects of Geronimo Stilton stories the most. All these dimensions are powerful sources of fun and fancy in I'm Too Fond of My Fur! Let's look at the humor first . As the book opens, Geronimo falls under the spell of a television pitchmouse and decides he's about to lose all of his hair. The solution? It's a "miracle lotion" you put all over your fur while you wear a very silly helmet. "As if in a trance, I r e a c h e d for the phone and dialed the number on the screen: 1-555-GROW-FUR." Before he knows it, he's bought 12 bottles of the rare "miracle lotion." Minutes later a goofy looking delivery mouse arrives on Rollerblades holding a package. Writing the check, he realizes he spent as much as a whole year's worth of cheese for this much money. The delivery mouse pats his own head of thick, curly fur and says, "I'm not just a delivery mouse." he grinned. "I'm a client! I was as bald as a fresh ball of mozzarella before I started using this product!" Unless you have never seen the typography before, you will be amazed to see sentences about smiles shaped in a wide u across the page, "curly" done in curly letters, "QUICK" as dark, bold, red letters slanted right, and "speak up" in huge, bold, black letters. What a delight it would be to learn to read with these visual cues. The illustrations in this book include a woolly mammoth in a block of ice, Geronimo being held up by a yeti, Geronimo doing a pratfall, Sherpa guides, and the most amazing machines. My favorite is of the television pitchmouse. Although not as heavy duty as many of the later books in the series, this one has plenty of good educational material starting with being skeptical about television commercials! There's a trip to Kathmandu in the heart of Nepal to climb Chomolungma (better known in this book as Mouse Everest). As usual, Geronimo has to do a lot of things that frighten him, but he bears up with as good an attitude as he can. He also has to keep a secret. Can you keep the secret, too? Have a ball . . . and keep your eyes open for something you're not supposed to see!

always loved

We can't get our hands on enough of these books fast enough. They have my son laughing so hard, I am glad he doesn't have a weak bladder.

Book Review by Cameron

From the Himalayas to Mouseland, there's a phone call. Soon Geronimo grabs his family and set out to help Professor Von Valt. While trying to help him, he is captured by a yeti! While trying to escape, he finds a yeti cub! In this book you'll see how crazy Geronimo is. If you like traveling this is perfect for you.

Great demonstration of layout!

Children should really read the Geronimo Stilton series - the rodent is just so adventurous! I do love the way it is laid out. The fun is so special when you place 2 language versions side by side so that young children can compare them. This is a great way to get them interested to learn a foreign language as well. Try Geronimo if you don't see your kinds interested in reading - you'd be surprised by the charm of this cheesy mouse.
