"IF..... a big word with the poor" by Donald C. Bakely
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
For the longest time in my life, I had no idea how well off I was and the blessings that had come my way with being raised in a middle class family, in a middle class neighborhood, in a middle class community in America. My dad was the proprietor of a typical small-town grocery store, a position that was hardly prestigious and in which I had any interest at all. Then Don Bakely came to town one day and in one evening introduced me to the world of the poor. Of course I knew that poor people existed and had driven past many in the City of Camden, NJ, the place where Don's great ministry to the poor began. But I only knew the poor from a distance and from what I could visually see, two very sterile perspectives. Don Bakely personally and through his book, "IF...a big word with the poor," gave me a tour of the poor from the inside out. What a remarkable difference my chance encounter with Don Bakely has made within me. Suddenly I care about the poor and am far less critical of their lifestyle and actions. The pictures and the words in "IF..." say it all and should be read by anyone not a part of the world of the poor.
