An Incredibly Special Jem

Let me preface by saying I read around 30 books last year, and If I had Your Face is my favorite. It's poetic, satirical, insightful, and just...beautiful. If I Had Your Face follows multiple woman as the confirm, contract, and absorb themselves into Korea's strict beauty and feminine standards. From a struggling artist who may or may not love her fiance, to a "room girl" who has is in crippling debt despite making 6 figures, to a woman who isn't sure she wants children, the woman of this novel are relatable to anyone that struggles with insecurity and societal expectations. I read it in March 2021 and just thinking of it brings a smile to my face. It's harsh, bittersweet, but so brilliant. I cannot wait from more from Frances Cha.
