Identifying and Relishing the Good Life

One fact that runs through our veins as human beings is that God created us a bundle of good, blessed with everything that the good life carries. However, there is a darkness upon the earth, a state of evil that works at preventing us from seeing and living our true life, a state of affair that only leaves a trail of emptiness, misery, confusion, and separation from God. But deep within our God-created selves we crave the good life. We naturally crave it because, besides being our natural life, it is the light of our spirits, the food of our souls, and the health of our bodies.The good life!What a life to live! It is a stream of endless life! Who can fathom its excellence! Who can fathom its bliss! Who can fathom its peace! Who can fathom its love! Who can fathom its dignity! Who can fathom its honour! Who can fathom its grace! Who can fathom its wisdom! Who can fathom its strength! Who can fathom its splendour!Who can fathom its freedom! Who can fathom its confidence! Who can fathom its influence! Who can fathom its beauty!Who can fathom its satisfaction! Who can fathom its Joy! In it God is experienced, seen, and enjoyed!This life is within you!As the Master, Jesus Christ, puts it, "The kingdom of God is within you [in your hearts] and among you [surrounding you]." ( Luke 17: 21.)As the Prophet Moses explains it, " It's not on a high mountain - you don't have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it.And it's not across the ocean - you don't have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it.No. The word is right here and now - as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it!" ( Deuteronomy 30: 12-14.)Identifying and relishing this reality as God created it is the reason he gave us the Holy Bible, also known as the Holy Scriptures.As his servant, Paul, puts it, " All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true, and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do." ( 2 Timothy 3: 16-17.)As Peter, another servant of God, puts it, "We have seen and proved that what the prophets said came true. You will do well to pay close attention to everything they have written, for, like lights shining into dark corners, their words help us to understand many things that otherwise would be dark and difficult. But when you consider the wonderful truth of the prophets' words, then the light will dawn in your souls and Christ the Morning Star will shine in your hearts." ( 2 Peter 1: 19.)This writing is about understanding the facts as God presents them in the Bible on various areas of living.The summary of what God tells us in this book is: "In a word, what I'm saying is, Grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life." (Matthew 5: 48; Galatians 6: 5.)God loves you. Choose good; reject evil. His peace and blessing be with you through Jesus Christ our Lord.
