Yuk!

I am not sure why I even finished this book. My undergraduate degree is in English, and I have been an avid reader all my life(am now in my 70's). There have been a couple of books that I didn't finish because they were so bad. I honestly don't know why I finished this one. I was never quite sure where the story was going. That can be a good thing -- in this case, it was not. There were too many story lines. I reread numerous passages because I wasn't sure where the story was going. I guess if you like to be confused while reading, this is the book for you! Yes, it had some exciting passages, but that was not enough to make it a good book.

Page-turner

Iceberg by Clive Cussler was nothing like the other Cussler book that I've read (The Mediterranean Caper). The book seemed like a quicker read, the reader really got involved in the story, and there was a series of twists. Major Dirk Pitt is the central character in this book. He travels to the North Atlantic Ocean to discover a boat that is totally surrounded by ice. To make matters more interesting, the boat is burned and all 15 crew members (including one of the wealthiest men in the world) are dead. Dirk must find out what has happened to this ship while fighting off multiple attempts on his life. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is truly an entertaining book that few won't enjoy.

Iceberg

Iceberg is definitely one of Clive's better novels, and that says a lot! As always Clive Cussler creates an ingenious plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This amazing plot goes from Iceland, to an iceberg or two, to Disney Land? Dirk Pitt again performs incredible feats to save the lives of many. After he is beaten to a pulp by a mad karate master, he is forced to climb a ravine and hike a several hor long voyage across Iceland.... That's just part of this amazing adventure. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially Dirk Pitt fans who have yet to read this one.

My favorite Pitt adventure

This was the very first 'real' novel I read from cover to cover (6th grade?) back in the early 80s. It was my buddy who had this book with a cover showing a bloodied (so I thought) iceberg that caught my attention. It did not dissappoint. I wanted to be Dirk Pitt after I read it! I've enjoyed all of his novels since (I have missed a few of his latests). But this remains my all time favorite. Thanks to Jay, who had the book at the bus stop.

Entertainingly arrant nonsense!

A highly amusing early novel from Cussler which succeeds in providing a few hours of entertainment. Although I prefer his later work, this one was ideal as a plane read whilst waiting in the departure lounge and on the flight itself to Switzerland. The story, despite having some contrived ideas which seemed like a bad TV movie at times, was quite interesting, and as far as Dirk Pitt`s dressing up as a camp gay goes - great stuff! Never mind the politically correct thought police, there needs to be books like this to fill the gap in the market! The idea of using Disneyland as a location towards the last part was inspired, and the Icelandic locations were very authentic indeed. I suspect the Kevlavik scenes might have inspired Tom Clancy in Red Storm Rising! All in all, worth a read. But where was Al Giordino?! Oh well . . .

a good thrill read

I agree that the beginning is good, but if you have read othercussler material, you won't be disapionted. Besides the lack of Pitt'sinescapable sidekick Al, Dirk travels to hell and back to get the bad guy and the girl. Besides being a little dated, a good read
