A Classic

This excellent 758-page dictionary by IBM Corporation has 18,000 definitions of terms relating to mainframe, midrange and microcomputer computing. It covers hardware, firmware, operating systems, application software, and programming languages. Some telecom and networking terms are also defined in it. This massive book, the 10th edition, published in 1994, is the first edition made available to the general public. In terms of its comprehensiveness, size, heft, and look-and-feel, this dictionary is a lot like Newton's Telecom Dictionary. In fact, this IBM dictionary and Newton's Telecom Dictionary complement each other perfectly, with the former thoroughly covering computing and the latter thoroughly covering telecom and networking. Between the two, they've got all the bases covered. The IBM Dictionary of Computing is the perfect reference for anyone with a professional or personal interest in the technology of computer-based systems.
