teen favorite

I was just reading my journal from when I was 14 (I'm 26 now) and I wrote this down as my favorite book. It may not be my favorite now, but it still ranks up there with "the best of the best" in my opinion. This is a really good read, not just for teens, but for the family of a teen. It seems as if you really know Didi by the end of the book!!

Good book

When Didi's mother dies Didi spins outta control. Her grades drop and she starts skipping school. Eventually she finds herself at Cooparation High (AKA "The Coop"), the "alternative" school for dropouts and druggies. Here she meets Stacey who is withdrawn and phobic around guys. She also meets T.J. the gorgeous stoner who she becomes increasingly attrcted to. And Larry, a parolee. When she and Stacey become close friends Didi finds out the reasons behind Stacey's fears. But now that Didi knows the truth what can she do?A good book with a look into teenage life and the dealings of abuse.

A story to be guided by

I have read this book about 6 times and each time I read it I find something I miss. In my personal opinion this book is more of a teenage handbook to survival, and an honest look for parents into the lives of teenagers. When Didi lost her mother everything went wrong for her. She ended up having to change schools and from someone who has done that let me tell you it isn't easy. Finding out the abuse of Stacey her friend was horrifing; however, it would be no less horrifing to someone it actually happens to. Whether or not anyone wants to admit it these things actually happen and Barthe Declements not only brought the world of teenagers to parents, but signs of abuse to teens. With this book you have a guide to life....and how to save one. I give this book 5 stars and think anyone young or old who read it will find it educational and entertaining...it was literally the first book I couldn't put down.

The G-Review

I read the book I Never Asked You to Understand Me by Barthe DeClements. I found the book to be entertaining. This book dealt with a lot of family, friendship, and other teen life problems in the world today. The book is told from first person point of view by the main character in the book named Didi. She is an average teenager who is very attractive and is constantly harassed by the guys in her school. She struggles with school, family, and her peers around her. I recommend this book to teenagers because it shows them what they are going to have to encounter sooner or later in their life. This book was easy to read because the language was not too difficult. I am not an avid reader, but I gave this book my full attention.

A Must Read for Anyone Having Trouble in School

Barthe DeClements novel, I Never Asked You to Understand Me, is excellently written. The main character, Didi, is having trouble at home and in school and consequently is sent to an alternative school, Cooperation High. While there she meets many other students who are going through a variety of different problems in their own lives. During her time at Cooperation High she "finds herself" and learns that she does not need to rebel against everything any longer. This is a must read for teenager who is having trouble in school, feels different, or alone. While reading this book you will be able to relate to many of the characters. Perhaps one or more will remind you of yourself.
