Loved it!

Being from Washington I love all things having to do with green living. My family recycles, conserves energy, supports public transport, and tries to use reusable bags whenever possible. I enjoy eating organic and supporting the farmer's market. I am comfortable in sandals and rain coats. Being green is part of being Washingtonian and I would not change that for the world. The recent phenomenon of the American culture embracing such a lifestyle is surprising to me, and at times a bit frustrating. The things that are now being promoted should happen all the time, not just because it is popular and faddish to do so. Christian in particular have a rather funny way of going about green. Many times it seems awkward, commercial, and forced. As always, there are roses among the thorns (sorry, I could not help it!). :) I was excited to begin reading I Love God's Green Earth, now available from Tyndale. This book contains ninety days of devotionals for kids focusing on taking care of creation. My 10 year old sister and I read this book together and she loved it! If it is possible, I think I loved it even more. The format was simple, short, and easy to understand, yet surprisingly deep. I loved the focus on Scripture and our God-ordained stewardship of the earth He has given us. We dug deep into the creation story as we read this book, adding even more substance to this great book. The book contains practical "action steps" throughout, and we have done a few things since reading I Love God's Green Earth. We are taking shorter showers, using reusable water bottles instead of buying expensive, bad for the environment plastic bottles, and we are going to plant a garden this year! Although this book is aimed at grades 3-6, many ages could benefit from reading I Love God's Green Earth! Entertaining and challenging for adults and children alike, this is a perfect alternative to all the secular material aimed at green living. Tyndale House Publishers provided me a copy of this book for my review.

Fantastic Book!

I Love God's Green Earth is a wonderful devotional for kids (and parents) who want to learn how to care for God's Green Earth. The daily devotionals cover a period of 90 days/lessons. Each starts with a Bible scripture quote followed by a brief paragraph of information regarding the chapter's topic. Next is a paragraph called "Connection" where they link the topic of the daily devotional with God's views based on Biblical scripture. The devotional finishes with activity suggestions that the whole family can discuss and wrap it all up with a fun fact or a funny joke. Our whole family really enjoyed this book! The devotionals are kid friendly, short and really informative. Most of all, it was fun! Our boys both raved about this book and loved the jokes, the lessons and activity suggestions. My husband and I really liked how the authors wove the concepts of God, faith, stewardship and caring for the Earth into each wonderful daily devotional. We highly recommend this for the whole family! What is one "action step" that our family is taking to help God's Green Earth? We are switching to a homemade, earth friendly inexpensive weed killer and we are going to only use it where it is absolutely necessary. We won't be spraying it on our grass but we will use it on our stairs, deck and driveway. Many thanks to Tyndale publishing for the opportunity to review this book!

I Love God's Green Earth

My Thoughts about I Love God's Green Earth This book covers a period of 90 days with scripture lessons, fun facts, activities and even jokes. A very interesting collection of fun facts and I even learned a few things that I did not know. For instance,"The deadliest earthquake ever recorded shook the Earth in Shansi, China, on January 23rd, 1556. Over 830,000 people died in the earthquake and the tidal waves that came afterward." That is a lot of people back then... I liked the What Can I Do? part of the daily devotion. I think that this is good for all of us and for children to think about how as individuals, we can help save our planet. Children are very receptive to new things and I think that this book will give them opportunities to think up ways to help save the environment and be able to use what they learn in their lives as they grow. It also leads them in the right direction on learning about God and how they relate to Him in their lives. I liked the book and I would recommend it for children over the age of 7. I give this book 5 stars...

I Love God's Green Earth

I LOVE GOD'S GREEN EARTH is a devotional for kids who want to take care of God's creation...which should be everyone. Each devotional starts with a verse, usually in the New Living Word version, followed by a short devotional relating the verse with some aspect of nature. Then it makes the "connection" tying scripture into creation. After that, it concludes with a section called "What can I do?" that will help your child understand their part. And, to make it fun, each devotional includes a joke or riddle. I have been using I LOVE GOD'S GREEN EARTH with my five (homeschooled) children for awhile so I could get a feel for the book and its style. Three of my children are probably a bit old for it, since they are teenagers, but my five year old and eight year old thought this is great. My teen boys loved the jokes. My older son said that this book is a great devotional for the young and young-at-heart. My younger son said this devotional is great and he likes it. I liked how this took stuff that you could teach your children from a magazine like "Ranger Rick" - but that isn't offered in a Christian view - and this is. It is like a simple science lesson included with the Bible lesson. Topics include: Smart Energy, Natural Disasters, Recycling, Animals Helping, Animals Behaving Badly, Trash, Simple Things to do at Home and more. Plus, included at the end of the book are Top Ten Tips for Creation Care. This would be an excellent book for your child or grandchild.
