Comprehensive & Easy-To-Read

Zoë's valuable book is a must read for those newly diagnosed or really at any stage of Alzheimer's Disease, as well as the entire family. In short to-the-point chapters, she shares advice based on 15 years of experience as medical doctor, delivering essential knowledge plus topics most doctors tend to avoid: Changes in sexuality; Guilt about long term care placement; Nutrition and feeding tubes; Incontinence; Calming methods of art and music therapy, and much more. Also included are empowering self tests to help with when to take away the car keys--and managing stress and burnout. Zoë was a fantastic guest on my radio program and she did a great job interviewing me on her show, Hospice Radio. I am honored to be her colleague! -Jacqueline Marcell, author of "Elder Rage" and host of "Coping with Caregiving" radio show Elder Rage, or Take My Father... Please!: How to Survive Caring for Aging Parents

Very clear and heplful information

This book gives a clear and concise summary of what a family can expect to occur with a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease. Dividing the book into three sections based on the stages of the disease is very useful. The appendix is full of important information too. I thought the caregiver self test for burnout and the driving safety check lists were two of the most powerful tools not found in other books on the subject. The use of art and music therapy was another addition not found in other books. The appendix tables with explanations on staging of the disease used by Dr. Lewis is technical, but for anyone to understand. It is important to understand how doctors stage this disease. The tips for making life easier can easily be started or tried. This book leaves no topic uncovered from the early to the final stage. Even bereavement is covered. Dr. Lewis explains why she used international experts to co-author many chapters, and these experts are the best in their fields, so it would appear, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the reader. No wonder the Alzheimer's Association included in their library. It is that helpful and that good and written by a doctor that cares for patients, AND their families, from the beginning stage to the end! A must have.
