If this is your taste.....

I am sure this book is excellent for antiquarian/rare book lovers, but I like popular authors with books 20-30 years old too, and those seem to be lacking in this guide a bit. Unless you are a professional book dealer, you will not fetch these prices on the internet, it is flooded with booksellers and the worth of a fine book seems to be waning. But all-in-all it is a good guide to go by when looking up older hardbacks.

Boof Refference or Book Prefference?

If you know your books fairly well to begin with, then this book will be at times, helpful. If you are looking for a way to bone up on collectibles, you may just be discouraged. A lot of very noteworthy books are left out, which leaves the reader to wonder if a little favoritism may be going on with the Author. Overall, I still had to rate a solid 4 for good effort in organizing a generally helpful refference guide to the new and seasoned book hound. For the money, it's a go.

More than just a price guide!

I was so surprised by this book....very pleased with the price guide because it lists books that I can actually find to buy and sell; there are the few really expensive ones featured but most are in the affordable $20 to 100 range. But the big surprise for me was that it is not a listing of books with an author's opinion of prices. Instead it is compiled from real book dealers and their catalogs or websites. The books listed in Huxford's are the REAL book and what it sold for. The dealers are all in the directory so you can contact them to buy and sell your books. I just can't get over this; so impressed that it wasn't just some guy's opinions of values but the real thing for a change. I plan to buy this book every year.

The 1999, 11th edition of a valuable resource.

This 445 page hardcover edition contains about 25,000 listings of old books as they appeared on various book sellers' price lists over the past year. Books are listed in alphabetical order by author. It describes the book, condition, date of publication and price as it appeared in the price list. Each entry contains a code to identify the booksellers, which are listed in the back of the volume. About 250 book sellers are listed. An extensive list of about 700 book buyers is provided, listed by book category, along with their address and phone number. A very useful reference for the book collector, buyer and seller.
