A Gardener's Diary By A World-Respected Author On Wine
Published by John Smelser , 5 years ago
Hugh Johnson is respected world-wide for his knowledge of and opinions on wine. But I got to know his writing in 1979 when I picked up The Principles of Gardening. It looked like a coffee table book... it had lots of pictures and illustrations... and it was organized in topical sections that seldom exceeded two pages in length. It was also absolutely crammed with information invaluable to any budding or advanced gardener. Factors affecting plant growth, how plants grow, types of plants, types of gardens, designing the garden, the history of gardening... topics were covered in amazing detail considering the lengths of the topical sections.
Now, in this gardeners diary, we are permitted to share his vast repository of garden knowledge in a much more relaxed, personable format. He speaks of his own experiences in a way that is both literary and intimate... informative and entertaining... and yet just as educational as his more academic writing. A real pleasure of a read.
