Spiritual Healing

Subtitled: The Meaning of the Healings of Jesus, this work argues that the Bible is a psychological textbook that teaches the science of life and contains the cure for all ailments of the body and mind. The author attempts to explain the inner meaning of the healings recorded in the New Testament. Understanding the meaning of biblical symbols and names plus the Hebrew alphabet provides the key. Murphy covers the healing of various physical & mental disorders including neuroses and psychoses, absent treatment (distance healing), the forces of faith & gratitude, the miraculous power of prayer and how healing takes place. Scriptural verses occur throughout the text to provide various examples of spiritual healing and it is clear that the author is familiar with Hebrew idioms and symbolism and the deeper levels of meaning in the text. Murphy's metaphorical interpretation of scripture is life-affirming and uplifting, as opposed to those literal interpretations that are so often destructive. It corresponds closely with those of the Jewish mystics. I also recommend The Hidden Power of the Bible by Ernest Holmes, Power through Constructive Thinking by Emmet Fox and The Creative Process in the Individual by Thomas Troward.

ANOTHER MURPHY CLASSIC

In this book, Joseph Murphy explores the miraculous healings of Jesus as recorded in the new testament, and explains in simple terms how the same methods and principles can be applied by anyone to heal oneself or others. Originally published in 1957, it was way ahead of its time since the mind-body connection is only now starting to be taken seriously by mainstream medicine and the public at large. The author's metaphysical interpretation of scripture is certainly wholesome and uplifting, as opposed to those fundamentalist/literal interpretations that are so destructive. There are references to Thomas Troward (see his book "The Creative Process In The Individual" which I recommend). This is an excellent guide for all holistic healers. In addition, I want to recommend the author's "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind," a true classic which also deals with healing and may be read in conjunction with this book.

A good book;looks simple but has deeper meaning.

This is a simple enough book. Examples are used from the bible parables but in a very revealing way that gives their metaphysical meaning. It is simple but healing at an intellectual level is a simple subject. Rearrange that deranged subconscious and healing automatically follows. The bug is in the how. Murphy has some simple things to say and explain but in that simplicity is clarity. This book made some things clear to me that others have tried to say but did not get the point across. That point being that the Perfect Spirit behind the mentality does the healing. Easy to say; but hard to get across as a conviction. Murphy is convincing and not to forget he was also a practitioner. In this field another one to read is Joel Goldsmith. A valuable read if you will read beyond the simplicity.
