We should constantly remind yourselves

I don't know if I'm the best person to rate this book ...'cause I LOVE this dude,i think Larry is awesome and this book is too, I mean it's about communication and he is the king! The book is like a rule book on how to be a better communication person ,we all have heard many of his tips in life before but we just don't remember to use it on a daily basis and that's what it brings up to us how to use the things to know in talks and basically LISTEN ,LISTEN ,LISTEN ..pretty much the key

Excelent start for socially challenged

Contrary to the other fellas I do find it very useful, specially for someone socially challenged. It gives clear examples off real life and definately good pointers. Even for the naturale social person I think this would be revealing because many of us just do things without even knowing how, and can't explain it. For some it's being social, for others it's solving physics problems, go figure. If you're one of those who has no clue as to how to start up a conversation and freeze instead, I do recommend it.

Basically Speaking

Would you rather go to the dentist or have to give a speech? If you answered honestly, you'd rather get a filling, an extraction and a root canal than to speak in front of an audience. The truth is at some point in our lives we all will have to speak in front of a group. If you're a Communications Major, like me, that day is coming sooner than you think. Unless you hit a big lottery jackpot, you will someday have to interview with a prospective employer for a position. We all will be guest at a social gathering, and whether it's large or small there will be conversation. Everyone experiences nervousness when speaking to strangers...by following the basic tips Larry gives in this book your next public communication experience will be less stressful, you will appear more confident at your next job interview and make a better impresion at your next social gathering. After reading this book, I realize that talking/communicating is essential. According to Larry, no matter the event the principles of conversation are the same:be open, find the common ground with your partner and always listen. These basic tips will have you communicating effectively, professionally and with confidence. The only thing separating good communication and bad communication is the desire to have it...basically speaking.

Excellent Advice from the Master

Larry shares what Larry knows. I feel some of the reviewers here have missed the point - and the fact that Larry is, after all, an old-school throwback. None-the-less, Larry is a master at getting people to talk. While most people follow the mundane conversation track of "How's the weather?" or "What do you do for a living?", Larry recognizes most of us are bored with answering such questions about our life. Does Patrick Ewing really want to talk basketball 24/7? Probably not. Ask the guy something about his life; something the average person wouldn't ask. I think Larry offers some great advice and I gained a lot from this offering.

his success is speaking

Sure Larry talks about his rise to fame. It is based on his ability to speak. He conveys the basics of being able to speak but you must listen to what he is saying to understand the fundamentals. I enjoyed the audio cassette.
