My Own Review

This book addresses basic concepts and is easy to read and understand. The content gets to the point and provides step by step examples.

This is the zero level course.

If you need this book, you don't need to be preparing and presenting arbitrations. If all you know is what you get here, you will get your lunch eaten by any experienced advocate and an experienced employment law attorney will have you stammering, stuttering, and wondering what you're doing there. That said, if you're an HR type who wants to get into the world of LR or a union steward who wants to get into the world of advocacy it is good foundation. Add this to your library so you have an idea what is going on and can ask intelligent questions, but if you are the one who's going to answer when the arbitrator asks for appearances, there is no substitute for a lot of mock arbitrations and a lot of second chair time with an experienced advocate. This book will teach you what is going on, but it will not teach you how to effectively prepare and present an arbitration. N.b.: Arbitrators are incredibly solicitous of inexperienced advocates who happen to have a meritorious case, so don't ever think that just because you won the case, you won the hearing; it's two totally different things. And if you wonder if I know what I'm talking about, go Google my name - and only a minor percentage of my appearances are published.

Arbitration with Ease

As an novice union represenative I needed some guidance on how to prepare and due arbitrations/grievances. This book has helped me in my first three mediations and now is helping me get ready for my first arbitration case. It gives some excellent insight (e.g. notebook and file box idea). It also helps you in doing your research on questioning, cross examination of your witness. It gives you some questions to ask and not to ask. For an indidvidual or union steward with no background in paralegal or law I would recommend this book to be on the top 3 of your book list to have as a union steward. The author did an excellant job and put it in a way that makes the book user-friendly. Now I have other union stewards coming to me for information on arbitrations.
