How to Pray After You've Kicked the Dog

When it comes to prayer, we second guess God. We look for the "catch" and in general, we make it harder than it was meant to be. This book is not about formulas or recipes for prayer. It is about... This description may be from another edition of this product.

THOUGHT PROVOKING...

I bought this book because I was (hope I always will be) going through some serious growth in the area of prayer. Being new to consistent and disciplined prayer, I picked up this book because the title grabbed me. It's the first Christian book I have finished in a while because it consistently held my attention with the easy to read segments, applicable truths and small relational stories within the content of each different chapter. I laughed out loud at some of the small stories. That doesn't happen to me often. It is not a book that is heavy on legal jargon, but a newbie like me learned quite a bit anyway about different prayer styles, etc. For example, people that pray loudly for the spirit of this or the demon of that to leave the area or person or situation always kind of startled me and put me off...people who pray silently with no emotion seemed to be not really praying to me. This book was very helpful in getting me to get out of my pit of ignorance and attitude of "if it doesn't look like me, smell like me, talk like me (and pray like me) then it isn't authentic. I appreciated very much being enlightened about how the different prayer "personalities" work together to make a dynamic team! When I first read of his idea to make an area of one's home a prayer station...dedicated to nothing but quiet (or loud as the case may be :-) prayer...I admit, I was like..yeah, right. Not in my home...but still, the idea intrigued me. Months after finishing the book, that one idea was the springboard for a dynamic change in my life to make prayer a daily focus. Now, Mark 1:35 in the Bible is my example and the focus of the beginning of each day. I don't do it at home, but I do it and the auther planted that seed in me and it has grown and continues to grow. Mark 4:31-32. If you have thought about making prayer a more integrated part of your life or just want to see what has happened to someone who has...please pick up this book. Learn about prayer and what can come of a more disciplined prayer life. The Lord is gracious and anxious to have a more intimate relationship with you. I cannot even describe to you the amazing joy that has welled up in me since I started praying daily and with persistence. Phillipians 4:6

Great!

I having been teaching this book to our youth group throughout this whole year. I think it is great. Most chapters have funny little stories in them that keep your attention while driving home the point at the same time. A few of the chapters have been a little deep for a youth group but this book wasn't written for that use so you can't blame the author. I would definitely recommend this book to help you prioritize prayer in your life and realize that God wants you to talk to him using your own personality and style.

How To Pray After You've Kicked the Dog

What a book! The author gives many examples of the busy day-to-day person who THINKS they cannot pray a prayer that GOD would even consider listening to! How wrong we are! Terry Teykl gives many ways for a person to begin praying (especially if that person has never prayed before). He makes praying a "fun" adventure; a meaningful time with GOD. And he tells us, "Here I am God. I know it's not pretty, but it's me." The book isn't full of formulas on how to pray, just about looking for "truth" and letting it "set you free"! I would recommend this book to those who have been praying ALL their lives as well as to those who have "just begun"!
